Caring Interventions, LLC is a professional, independent intervention practice serving the continental United States. We help families and employers confront the challenges of drug addiction, alcoholism, psychiatric disorders and "process" or "behavioral" addictions such as compulsive sex, overeating, shopping and computer gaming. Caring Interventions is not affiliated with any treatment center. We are committed to making intervention accessible and affordable and to upholding the high ethical standards of the national Association of Intervention Specialists and Network of Independent Interventionists.
 
With more than 40 years of combined experience, Caring Interventions offers intervention, education, screening, referral, transport, case management and post-treatment care including sober coaching, testing, supervision and monitoring. We have first-hand, clinical knowledge of a wide range of treatment facilities for adults and youth, self-help programs and faith-based programs. Brian O'Shea, CAI, MAAP, CSI, BRI-C: Lead Interventionist, Sober Coach
 

Caring Interventions co-founder Brian O'Shea is our lead interventionist and sober coach. He has facilitated successful interventions and managed cases in 20 states. Brian is trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the Johnson model of intervention and is certified in Systemic Intervention© and ARISE. He is a certified Gorksi-CENAPS® Relapse Prevention specialist and is studying Addiction-Free Pain Management® (APM) under Dr. Stephen F. Grinstead. Brian is trained and experienced in working with a wide range of populations. He received his formal intervention training from Dr. Judith Landau, Heather Hayes, Wayne Raiter, Jim Cowser and Randee McGraw. He is a member of the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), Network of Independent Interventionists (NII), a candidate member of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS), a candidate for certification in addiction counseling by the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MAAP) and candidate for certification by AIS as a Board Registered Interventionist (BRI-C). Brian regularly presents on Intervention: Why and When, The Different Models of Intervention and the Back to the Basics step guide created by Wally P., Dr. Bob's archivist. He has been active in 12-step recovery for families of alcoholics since childhood. This year he celebrates the 26th anniversary of his own recovery from addiction and alcoholism.

C.J. Davis, Ph.D.: Clinical Advisor
 
C.J. Davis is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience as an individual, family and group therapist both in private practice and in hospital settings including the Oschner Clinics in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Her clinical expertise encompasses eating disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders and trauma. She has been widely published in professional journals such as the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology and the International Journal of Eating Disorders. She is a prolific author who has been published in professional journals and handbooks. Most recently, she co-authored Assessment of Eating Disorders: Obesity, Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa published by Pergamon Press. She completed her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi and earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Louisiana State University where she specialized in behavioral medicine and minored in behavioral neurology.

 
John Barnes, CAI-C: Interventionist, Transporter, Sober Coach, Sober Companion
 
John Barnes has been working in the field of addiction for more than 10 years. John brings to his interventions sensitivity and awareness of the many ways the disease of addiction affects both the individual and the family. He is trained in the Johnson and Systemic models of intervention and is a practicing ARISE™ interventionist under supervision who is completing his certification. He received his formal intervention training from
Dr. Judith Landau and Heather Hayes and has interned with Brian O'Shea.
He is a candidate member of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS) and is studying addiction counseling. John also specializes in transportation, ensuring safe passage to treatment and a smooth completion of the admission process. John has a B.A. in political science from the University of Memphis. He is married, has two children and has been in recovery for 12 years. See an interview with John below.

Tom Braddock, CRC, CPC, CAI: Interventionist, Transporter
 
Tom Braddock is an experienced interventionist and director of Sober Life, a transitional living community in Birmingham, Alabama. He is certified as an ARISE
™ interventionist, recovery coach and life coach. His formal training in intervention came from Dr. Judith Landau, Heather Hayes, Jim Cowser and Randee McGraw.
Tom earned his B.B.A. from Baylor University and is working on a Master's degree in counseling. He is a member of  the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), the International Association of Coaches (IAC) and a member of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS). He regularly attends workshops and intensives on chemical dependency and intervention. He is active in 12-step recovery and celebrated the 11th anniversary of his recovery this year.

Jim Cowser, LCSW, ICADC, ICCDP-D, BRI II, CAI: Clinical Advisor
 
 
Jim Cowser, LCSW, ICADC, ICCDP-D, BRI-II, CAI serves as Caring Interventions clinical adviser. He is a licensed clinical social worker, internationally certified alcohol and drug counselor, internationally certified co-occurring disorders professional and board-registered interventionist whose expertise encompasses Johnson, Systemic and ARISE. Jim is a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Martin and completed his Master of Science degree in Social Work degree at the Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville. He has 15 years of diverse and extensive experience in the field of mental health including residential care, juvenile social services, chemical dependency treatment and individual and family counseling. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Association of ARISE Interventionists and the American Philosophical Practitioners Association.

Kathleen Stept, CAI: Case Manager, Transporter, Sober Escort

  
Caring Interventions co-founder Kathleen Stept, CAI is a certified ARISE interventionist, case manager and transporter. She works closely with families to ensure that we have the important background knowledge needed for screening, planning and identifying the most appropriate treatment options. She also manages Caring Interventions communications including our website and Facebook page. Kathleen has a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and has more than 26 years of professional experience in communications and project management. She has been involved in 12-step recovery for families for the last 9 years.

Ann Herlihy, B.S., M.S.: Transporter, Sober Escort, Sober Companion

 
Ann Herlihy served as a staff mental health clinician and coordinator of drug and alcohol programs for three counties at the Pinebelt Mental Health Center in Laurel, Mississippi. She also conducted educational seminars in high schools, assisted the Center director with competency hearings and provided therapy and other mental health services to war veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. She is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and and a Master of Science degree in counseling psychology.
